Shaban is one of the seasons of worship that should be utilized in filling our record of good deeds and reward. It is a month in which Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would fast more than he fasted in any other month in acknowledgment of its excellence, as stated by authentic hadiths.

Not only fasting is recommendable in Shaban but all the good deeds are also desirable in this month. The faithful Muslim aspires to have a big share of the various acts of worship in search for the pleasure of God to him.

Abu Hurairah reported that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Who amongst you is fasting today? Abu Bakr said: I am. He (again) said: Who amongst you followed a funeral procession today? Abu Bakr said: I did. He (the Prophet) again said: Who amongst you served food to the needy? Abu Bakr said: I did. He (again) said: Who amongst you has today visited the sick? Abu Bakr said: I did. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Anyone in whom (these good deeds) are combined will certainly enter paradise.” (Muslim)

Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not depend on his closeness to the Prophet Muhammad nor on his immense spending in the cause of Allah as he once donated all his properties for the sake of Allah. However, he tried to have a share from the different kinds of good deeds. Therefore, he will be admitted to enter paradise from all its doors because of his diverse good deeds.

Narrated Abu Hurairah, “I heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saying, “Anybody who spends a pair of something in Allah’s Cause will be called from all the gates of Paradise, “O Allah’s slave! This is good.’ He who is amongst those who pray will be called from the gate of the prayer (in Paradise) and he who is from the people of Jihad will be called from the gate of Jihad, and he who is from those’ who give in charity (i.e. Zakat) will be called from the gate of charity, and he who is amongst those who observe fast will be called from the gate of fasting, the gate of Rayyan.” Abu Bakr said, “He who is called from all those gates will need nothing,” He added, “Will anyone be called from all those gates, O Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)?” He said, “Yes, and I hope you will be among those, O Abu Bakr.” (Al-Bukhari)
